Spring of 2022 I joined the mobile app team at Choice Hotels as their lead UX designer. Right as I joined, the team was already in the works on a massive project - digital check-in. My role had to adapt quite a bit as I was passed the controls for one of the biggest updates to the Choice Mobile app in years. After a successful test launch, the feature rolled out to dozens of hotels around the United States and continues to grow.

The new mobile check-in feature also brought a new home screen design to the app back in 2022.

The feature first launched to a few select hotels, eventually rolling out to about 60+ hotels in the U.S.

The experience wasn’t just about designing the arrival and departure, but the in-stay needs as well.
Like a glove.
When the mobile apps went through a full redesign, the mobile check-in easily adapted to the new design system. A more breathable design with the same easy-to-follow flow graced the apps at launch in 2024.

Reflecting
Since the launch of mobile check-in, guests have been utilizing it nationwide with ease. While I can’t share any stats on the adoption, I can say that it was a successful step forward for a better digital experience in our hotels. Doing something like mobile check-in benefits both the guest and the hotel staff as it’s easier (and quicker) to assign rooms knowing a guest is on their way via this process. I’m excited for future additions and adaptations to this feature, and will update y’all here as those additions happen
